Lone Pecan Tree In Civil War Farm Field

1/4/2014 – Cobalt blue winter skies, thin white clouds, and a snow covered Civil War farm field create a beautiful backdrop for this lone Pecan Tree.

1/4/2014: A lone Pecan tree stands in a snow covered field under a cobalt blue winter sky on J. Poffenberger farm at Antietam National Battlefield. A beautiful, albeit frigid winter afternoon to spend at the enormous Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Washington county, Maryland. On the night of September 16th, 1862, 15,000 Federal Union soldiers gathered in these very fields to begin the attack on Confederate forces the next morning. This farm is located at the northern edge of the ‘North Woods’ section of Antietam.
