This now historic and serene snow covered countryside was hole to the bloodiest singe day battle of the entire Civil War. On the way out of Antietam National Battlefield I wanted to stop at the Antietam National Cemetery. Across the street I found another historic graveyard, Mountain View Cemetery. The date on the gate says 1883, though I think some of it may predate that. It is rather large, with large old spruce trees, and many very old grave markers. This shot is on the hill in the northeast cotter looking back weat / southwest to the other hill. As you can see it is a larger celerity. Ill be posting more pics of this cemetery in the future as I took several. It was especially beautiful under a blanket of snow in the setting sun. It is located in historic Sharpsburg, in Washington county, Maryland.

1/4/2014. Snow drifts, trees and old civil war fences make for a serene wintry scene in the cornfield section of Antietam National Battlefield. The snow drifts were 2-3 feet deep! A beautiful, albeit frigid winter afternoon to spend at the enormous Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Washington county, Maryland.  With gusty winds and temperatures running in the 14-17F range, we largely had the place to ourselves this day, and much of the snow from the storm a couple days prior was still pristine, unmelted, and untouched by man.

1/4/20: On the way out of Antietam National Battlefield I wanted to stop at the Antietam National Cemetery. Across the street I found another historic graveyard, Mountain View Cemetery. The date on the gate says 1883, though I think some of it may predate that. It is rather large, with large old spruce trees like the ken seen here, and many very old grave markers. This one was one of the more interesting ones and I liked some of the perspectives it offered. The date on it that I could find was 18 something. So it’s at least 110 years old. Ill be posting more pics of this cemetery in the future as I took several. It was especially beautiful under a blanket of snow in the setting sun. It is located in historic Sharpsburg, in Washington county, Maryland
